Below is what the artist of this awesome t-shirt design stated :
“Well I felt Chicanas don’t really get the respect they deserve for their skills & abilities.
My sisters ,mother and friends are what helps me to try and understand the Chicana experience.
So after some discussions with some strong Chicanas in my personal life I thought why not make a Chicana version.
The way the “H” in Chicana forms a small muscle arm is for the strength it takes to be Chicana.
The strength it takes to deal with prejudice in a male dominated society .
The strength needed to overcome the daily adversities faced by Chicanas.
The strength symbolized here is also the internal strength it takes to overcome adversities.
This strength it takes to be strong not just for ourselves but for our family and community.
The letter “I” is set up almost as a middle finger. (Could it be, I will let you be the judge).
A possible middle finger to those who don’t accept Chicanas &
a possible middle finger for those who doubt a Chicanas skills or abilities.
No matter how bad the odds are against a Chicana,
She will find a way to overcome the odds and be successful.”
